6 Ideas for Getting Married at Christmas

Want to say “I do” during the holidays? What a great present for you and your future spouse to give each other: The gift of a lifetime together.  Getting married at Christmas also adds to the romance of a wedding. So, here are six tips for a wonderful big day.

6 Tips for Getting Married at Christmas

1. Start wedding planning way in advance (and inform guests early).

As with any wedding, give family and friends plenty of notice. Hopefully, that will ensure they can participate in your big day. So, sending out save the dates 6-8 months ahead of time is a good idea.

We all tend to make holiday plans well in advance. Therefore, to aid their end-of-the-year plans, let your guests know that you’re planning a Christmas wedding.

2. Consider the decor already in your wedding venue (and use it to your advantage).

Getting married at Christmas in a church? Many hotel and church venues have decorations around the holidays. Therefore, knowing what will be in place when you get married is key when considering your wedding décor. Don’t feel you are limited to red and green, either.

Pondering colors like silver, white, or gold won’t clash with existing décor. Also, be sure to book your venue well in advance. As a result, many are booked a year in advance for Christmas parties and possibly longer for holiday weddings.

3. Incorporate the holidays into your bridal look (and feel more festive).

Of course, your friends want to be a part of your big day! Finding gorgeous bridesmaid dresses is a must, yet incorporating sparkly jewelry and a faux fur wrap adds to the season’s flair.

For the bride, a colorful wrap or blanket scarf makes a statement…especially when having photos inside!

4. Seize the opportunity to use fresh greens (and save on the budget).

Use evergreen plants, holly, and pine cones in arrangements and floral crowns. Not to be overdone, these holiday-themed natural elements pair easily with traditional flowers.

Consider blooms like roses and anemones to soften the look while hinting at the Christmas season. Foraging is often easier on the budget than shipping out-of-season flowers.

5. Let the holidays shine through your decor (and let everyone feel the wonder of the season).

We all love seeing presents under the Christmas tree. So, how fun would it be for your guests to put their wedding gifts under a live tree? It’s a perfect idea if you are getting married at Christmas!

White lights add to the holiday feel and liven up a space in many ways. Plus, putting a unique twist on traditional Christmas decorations is inventive. If you plan a non-Christmasy color scheme, decorate a Christmas tree in nontraditional colors instead of red, green, and gold.

6. Warm up your guests (and keep them cozy).

Instead of a traditional bar, why not have two signature drinks? A “his” drink of warm mulled wine or spiked apple cider would be perfect alongside a “hers” option of an adult hot chocolate topped with whipped cream. What a treat around Christmas time!

Also, provide cozy options for your attendees. Blankets and pillows can add a homey feel to a lounge seating area, and candles can visually warm up a space.

Save our ideas for getting married at Christmastime!

Getting married around the holidays can be a lot of pressure, but it doesn’t have to be. You can quickly build a beautiful theme by using Christmas cues, such as colors and decor items. Plus, there’s already a festive feeling in the air.

It’s also perfectly acceptable to get married at Christmastime without a hint of festive vibes. If you love orange and brown, feel free to have a December wedding with fall vibes. Remember, this is your special day with your love, so do whatever you like. Happy planning!
