4 Honeymoon Trends for 2026

Curious about 2026 honeymoon trends?

With so many honeymoon destination options, you may be facing a difficult choice. Add in the expense, and it can leave your head spinning. When time, memories, and money are at stake, you definitely want to get it right.

To answer questions, we consulted Sarah Casewit, a luxury travel expert and the owner of a boutique travel company that often caters to honeymooners. Here’s what she had to say.

4 Honeymoon Trends for 2026

1. Immersive experiences rank high.

“From the requests that I’ve been receiving lately, today’s honeymooners are seeking experiences that feel unrepeatable,” says Casewit. Couples are swapping the FOMO of trying to see it all for the experience of feeling the depth of a place. And that’s a promising change.

Connecting with the land and people is essential to 2026 honeymooning couples, ensuring that a honeymoon location really leaves a lasting impression. Additionally, Casewit says couples “are asking for less of the formulaic luxury and for more of a blend of adventure and culture.” Experiential trips are a 2026 honeymoon trend that will last well beyond the end of the year, and rightfully so.

2. Extended stays are a top priority.

Not all couples honeymoon immediately after the wedding day, so they can effectively plan their leave. Maximizing time off from work often leads to longer honeymoons, and Casewit has definitely seen an uptick in the time newlyweds are willing to be away. “They’re choosing impactful, slower itineraries that favor presence over pace,” she adds.

Instead of a quick in-and-out trip, couples really want to immerse themselves in a place. Today’s newlyweds aren’t shy to book a two-week minimum trip. Additionally, some choose to spend up to five weeks traveling to multiple countries. “I have yet to receive a traditional ‘fly-and-flop’ beach honeymoon request, which tells me that there is demand for meaning over material excess,” adds Casewit.

3. Wellness has expanded to include the spiritual.

Wellness-centric journeys will always be en vogue. However, rather than just a simple sunrise yoga session, couples are searching for more. “Requests range from hiking the Inca trail to walking the Camino and visiting sacred sites in Morocco and India,” reveals Casewit. Plus, there is a blend of movement and cultural exposure when visiting such places.

Whether it’s transformative or a way to give a marriage a great start, couples are diving in deeper. “The 2026 traveler is defined by intentionality, and honeymooners embody that spirit perfectly,” she adds. Before the start of a lifetime together, having a spiritual trip can further solidify your wedding vows.

4. Storied hotels are the stay of choice.

Couples honeymooning in 2026 are forgoing stays at chain hotels in lieu of booking accommodations that exude character. According to Casewit, “locally rooted stays that feel personal rather than performative” are what newlyweds are prioritizing.

They crave being in a place that tells a story and has an interesting past, “adding layers to their experience.” Opting for a reputable boutique hotel will often yield those results.

Building Off the Honeymoon Trends for 2026

So, where should you head for this type of experience? Honestly, you can go anywhere that has a story. While some may choose to go abroad, quaint towns and rural retreats abound throughout the United States.

However, if you choose to go abroad, Casewit has a few ideas. She suggests adding immersive experiences, such as “a private tea ceremony in Japan, a handwritten blessing from a Berber elder in the Atlas Mountains, or a night under the stars in Namibia with no one else for miles.” Other destinations that encourage travelers to dive deeper include Morocco, Costa Rica, Guatemala, the Mediterranean islands, and Japan.

It’s also important that your journey reflects your desires as a couple. Sure, a Japanese tea ceremony may sound interesting, but if it’s not your vibe, do something else. After all, there’s a whole world out there. Wherever you go, in Casewit’s opinion, an experiential trip should include “transformative elements like workshops, rituals, or nature immersions.”
