Virginia is a gorgeous state, and Shenandoah Valley weddings prove that fact. This big day was high on style with lots of personal elements. It’s brimming with ideas for the couple getting having autumn weddings in Virginia!
Advice for Planning Shenandoah Valley Weddings
Every wedding is a reflection of the couple getting married. As a result, such is the case with Nikki and Will’s big day. Plus, this couple included so many elements of their relationship and heritage in their decor. Consequently, every detail is a perfect example of how Shenandoah Valley weddings should be!
Of course, you’d expect wedding venues in Shenandoah Valley VA to be lovely. Plus, this one had a view of the Virginia mountains, which created the perfect backdrop. Nikki told us about her Virginia wedding in her own words.
How did you select Shenandoah Valley wedding venues?
Our top priority was to make sure that the event was authentic to us as a couple. This started with the location. An outdoor wedding with a view of the Blue Ridge Mountains was our first and biggest decision.
Once we saw the ceremony space, our choice was made. We could see Shenandoah National Park from where we would say, “I do.” And in the foreground was a wheat field. I’m from Kansas, and the convergence of the mountains and the wheat felt like fate to us.
What advice do you have to make the wedding day uniquely yours?
I made an 8-page, full-size wedding day newspaper that I included in all of our guests’ welcome bags. We wrote messages to our guests, made a crossword puzzle with facts about us, and included a thank-you to our parents and vendors. Also in the welcome bags was a mix of goodies from Virginia and Kansas.
We had two cake toppers. One was in the shape of Virginia and the other was in the shape of Kansas. Our food was also a nod to both states. We provided Virginia ham on biscuits as an appetizer and served BBQ.
We named each table after a place that was important to us. Several of these were places in Virginia: Shenandoah National Park, Hot Springs, Goshen Pass, and Grayson Highlands. My mom, an avid gardener, grew 12 ferns at my parents’ home in Kansas. Then she and my dad transported them from Kansas to Virginia for the wedding.
There were several nods to our dog, Bella, and cat, Nermal. I commissioned a ring that looked like Nermal and wore it on my right hand. I had a photo of Bella made into a patch, which Will attached to his pocket square. We also named our specialty cocktails for our pets and had signs and cocktail napkins made using their images.
We wanted our wedding to feel authentically us, to pay tribute to the places we’re both from, and to be a lot of fun. With the help of our amazing vendors, we believe we succeeded.
And succeed they did. Just take a peek at how lovely their day was at their Shenandoah wedding venue!
