A few months ago, I was invited to visit San Mateo County and the Silicon Valley with the purpose of exploring all things wedding. The area boasts unique venues (truly, I can’t wait to share more!), lovely views and a perfect climate. Whether you live in the Golden State or are pondering a destination wedding, here are three venues to consider in planning a California winery wedding!
Being a Virginia gal, it’s no secret that I live near many popular wineries. After all, they offer stunning views, a casual atmosphere, and of course… wine! Although CA thoughts automatically turn to Sonoma and Napa Valley, I was quite impressed with the variety, beauty, and knowledge that wineries throughout San Mateo offered. It made my foray well worth it. Plus, coming home with a few bottles didn’t hurt!
Of course, I loved tasting wines throughout the region and learned a lot about winemaking in the process. Yet, beyond delicious beverages and the education gained through tasting, these locations are ideal for your wedding!
Thomas Fogarty is perfect for a California winery wedding.
I knew as soon as we arrived at this Woodside, CA venue that I would absolutely consider it for my own wedding. An active vineyard, Thomas Fogarty Winery offers stunning views of both its land and the bay. Their picturesque location also allows for tastings by their extremely knowledgeable pourers.
With both indoor and outdoor areas for events of varying sizes, this venue offers several options for a wedding ceremony along with private spaces for both the bride and groom to utilize separately before they say” I do.” I adore the aptly named, beautifully curated Lawn Area, which has a view of the San Francisco Bay and has a private feel. The Lawn Area can be coupled with their covered deck – named The Pavilion – which overlooks their Chardonnay vineyard. It’s a great option for a rain plan!

Consider Domenico for your California winery wedding.
Another one of my favorites was Domenico Winery, which is a family owned and run business in San Carlos, CA. Their location is a beautiful indoor respite in an urbanesque setting, and I’d highly suggest the rosé!
Their urban space has an upscale warehouse feel with rows of wooden wine casks that add interest. I adore that this location has so many unique elements, yet it can be set up to accommodate your wedding day dreams. It holds up to 350 for a reception or up to 150 for an event that includes both the ceremony and reception. They also offer the ease of an in-house caterer and – of course – delectable wines for your guests to enjoy!

Next on the list for a California winery wedding is La Honda.
Nestled in Redwood City, CA is La Honda Winery. Its unpretentious exterior gives way to a lovely, indoor space that offers natural stone floors and a fabulous wood ceiling. The setting itself boasts a rustic vibe that speaks for itself without needing a lot of extra décor elements. Although I’d highly suggest candles to enhance the already romantic, dreamy atmosphere.
As a self proclaimed “best kept secret” I would say that I highly agree. The staff was especially kind, which is a bonus when trying to craft a memorable, once in a lifetime event for up to 200 guests.

Aren’t those lovely spaces? They are perfect to consider for a destination wedding.
Craving more California inspiration? There’s more to come on the blog, but for now, check out these posts here. Again, many thanks go out to the San Mateo County/Silicon Valley Convention and Visitor’s Bureau for their hospitality in hosting me.
