6 Unique DIY Winter Wedding Ideas

Looking for DIY winter wedding ideas for your big day?

Getting married in winter may mean iffy weather, but it also means creative ideas! Whether you choose to focus on Christmas or ignore the season, there are many ways to make your special day unique.

Winter is such an enjoyable, beautiful time to get married. It’s no wonder, as the season is filled with fresh greenery and whimsical color palettes, which can add an extra element of fun.

Whether you are sticking to traditional winter florals and hues for a winter wonderland wedding or are straying away from the ordinary with pops of color and unexpected flowers, here are a few ideas that won’t break your budget.

Our six ideas are a great jumping-off point if you’re getting married in December, January, or February.

6 Unique DIY Winter Wedding Ideas

1. Make Christmas ornaments.

Looking for a cute, unique wedding favor idea? Give your guests ornaments so that they can remember your wedding year after year as they hang them on their tree.

One simple way to make ornaments is to use clear glass bulbs and fill them with potpourri. Just add a personalized ribbon around the mouth of the bulb with your names and wedding date. Voila! What an economical, yet adorable favor. You can also display the ornaments by hanging them from string lights at your reception.

You can also make inexpensive wood disc ornaments. Just hang them on a tree and ask each guest to take one. It’s a fun, clever way to incorporate them into your reception décor!

2. Craft handmade firestarters.

Pinecone fire starters are an unusual and practical wedding favor. Even if your guests don’t have a fireplace, they can be tossed into a bonfire to make it easier to start. Constructing these favors can be pretty easy and would be ideal for a wedding on a budget.

Dress them up by attaching a tag or placing them in a little bag with a label. That way, they can double as a place card! Display them on each place setting at your reception to ensure that your guests take them home.

3. Utilize fresh greens.

Tasteful, simple centerpieces are all the rage. If you are using farm tables, you can put greenery down the center. Dress it up by adding white candles of varying heights and a few pinecones here and there. How pretty and easy! Something similar works on round tables by creating a focal point in the middle with live greens (economical, too!).

Candles can be placed inside clear white vases or just put in small dishes or wood rounds directly on the table. Additionally, you can cut large sections of greenery into smaller pieces and place them around the candles, peppered with pine cones. Also, for safety, please keep the flames away from the foliage

4. Add natural red berries for pops of color.

Whether you have a sweetheart table or sit with your bridal party, hanging mistletoe or red berries over your chairs is a whimsical idea your guests will love.

Hang the mistletoe or berries either from the back of your chairs or above you to make it more visible. What a simple DIY wedding idea, perfect for a wedding on a budget.

5. Curate a s’mores station.

S’mores are a yummy, quick dessert. Pre-making cute little s’mores kits is sweet for a low-budget wedding. Plus, having all the ingredients pre-packaged for each guest will make it easier for them when it’s time to make them.

Before your wedding, take time to separate the ingredients and put them into a clear plastic box or clear gift bag. This way, they are all ready to go and can be displayed beautifully on your wedding day.

6. Provide warm drinks.

Hot chocolate is a fun way to incorporate a festive drink into your wedding, and it is excellent for all ages. Plus, if you want to have other options, you can create a “winter drinks bar” at your reception and offer other festive choices, such as hot toddy and spiced cider.

Be sure to include fun add-ins and toppings for the hot chocolate, such as peppermints and whipped cream. As a result, adding a few other options, such as hot tea and coffee (including decaf), is a nice touch for guests preferring to keep things simple.
