From at-home date ideas to romantic date night ideas, take our suggestions on Valentine’s Day. We don’t mind if you claim them as your own!
Valentine’s Day Date Ideas for Couples Who are Foodies
Cook together.
Skip the restaurant scene on Valentine’s Day, and cook a meal together. Plan your menu, shop for ingredients, and craft the meal. There is just something romantic about being in the kitchen side by side chopping and taste testing.
Create an ice cream sundae bar.
Have dessert for dinner, and go all out! Buy your favorite flavors of ice cream and get an assortment of toppings. Sprinkles, sauces, and cones can make for a fun evening of sweet treats.
Creative Date Ideas for People Who Love Mornings
Go on a breakfast date.
Love getting up early? Why not head for a meal out in the morning? We all know that restaurants are slammed in the evening. Therefore, make some extra time to get out and have a hearty breakfast together.
Hit the gym.
Up and at ’em! Start your day out right and help each other get healthy. Run on the treadmill and spot each other with weights. It’s more romantic than you think!
At-Home Date Ideas for Couples
Play games.
Challenge each other to a game night. Break out the PS4 or get out a few classic board games. Either way, a night of fun will get your mind on each other and provide great memories.
Do dinner and a movie.
Again, avoid the crowds and stay in. Order takeout or make dinner, and choose a movie together. Use a streaming service, choose a TV movie, or pick a DVD you’ve had around forever. Cuddle up on the couch and enjoy!
Romantic Date Ideas for Valentine’s Day
Write a poem.
This could be either super romantic or extremely silly! Write poems for each other or – better yet – write a poem together. It can be poetry about things you’ve experienced together or what your future holds. It can also be a fun rhyme that you created.
Have a DIY spa night.
There are a bunch of DIY recipes on the web, so why not have a spa night at home? Treat each other to back massages and foot soaks as you spend time together and relax. Take a peek at this DIY bath salt recipe, too!
Creative Date Ideas for Couples
Craft cocktails.
Handy with drinks? Whether you are or not, why not try a few simple recipes at home? Or create some of your own cocktail recipes for Valentine’s Day. Who knows? You may come up with a combination you love. This can be one of the most creative date night ideas!
Have an indoor picnic.
Make a charcuterie board, buy some sparkling wine, and spread out a blanket on the living room floor. It may be too cold to have a real picnic. However, you will be surprised at how romantic this one of our inexpensive date ideas is.
Outdoor Date Ideas for the Adventurous Couple
Have a bonfire with s’mores.
February tends to be chilly (at least here in Virginia!), so heading outside for a bonfire is perfect. Get the fire going and cuddle as you toast marshmallows and eat s’mores. So fun!
Take a walk or hike.
Start out or end your Valentine’s Day with a walk. Either way, heading out hand in hand is one of the most inexpensive date ideas around! Plus, it gives you a chance to talk and get to know each other a bit more.
Virtual Date Ideas for Long-Distance Couples
Write love letters.
Sure cards are great. However, when your only option is phone or video chat, write a love letter and read it to each other. It is sure to be special, meaningful, and incredibly romantic!
Watch a movie.
Yes, it can be done! If you have impeccable timing, you can hit “play” at the same time with a streaming service. Alternatively, you could use FaceTime or a similar video chat service to view a TV screen together. Or there is always the screen sharing option. There are so many creative ways to watch together using technology.

Elizabeth van der BijSo many great ideas! Thanks!!
DeborahGreat ideas! My fiance and I are trying to save money for our wedding so we were looking up inexpensive ways to spend valentine’s day (as it’s our 4th anniversary as well!) We’ve done an indoor picnic before, we should do it again! It was so fun!
Stephanie WhitmanOooh my husband and I have done a bunch of the ideas on this list – with an indoor picnic probably being our favorite. It always seems to rain on our “special occasion” days. So we’ve gotten into a good routine of bringing out a blanket, scooting all the living room furniture aside, lighting some candles, and enjoy wine and cheese on the floor while we play games and listen to our favorite music. In fact, if we weren’t planning to travel over Valentine’s Day, that’s probably what we’d end up doing hah!
KileenThese are such wonderful ideas! I love that they can also be used for date nights as well! Thank you for sharing!!
NatalyThese are some great ideas. We usually stay in on Valentine’s Day. I honestly think we do that every year and I love it!
Ashley RI think me and my husband will combine the at-home spa and the cocktails. Sounds like a wonderful Valentine’s. Especially with kids asleep.
CarolynI really love these ideas! As I was reading through the descriptions I knew we would fall under the “homebody” category and we so did. Those are our favorite things to do together and probably what we’ll end up doing haha! #kidlife
Taylor MobleyI LOVE indoor picnics!!! My hubby and I used to do them all the time before baby was born. We need to get back into it for sure!
AmandaCute ideas! The hubby and I need to have more dates– will have to try some of these (um, especially the breakfast date- -I LOVE a good breakfast!)
