If you live in Northern Virginia and want engagement photos, DC can be the ultimate destination. It’s filled with history, beautiful backdrops, and streets that are ideal for your pictures! DC engagement photographers are often requested when the cherry blossoms are in bloom, yet the city is lovely all year round, as you will see with this stunning session.
TL;DR ~ If you need engagement photos, DC is the perfect place. With lovely architecture and rich history, Washington DC photos are both memorable and stunning.
Engagement Photos DC Style
We caught up with bride-to-be, Regina, to understand why she and Lance chose to have Washington DC photos with Meredith Campbell Photography. Not only is the location sentimental, but the city fits in perfectly with plans for an engagement surprise!
How did you meet?
We met in college through mutual friends. We both went to Virginia Tech. The first time we met was during the last few days of my freshman year before summer break at a dining hall. He came up to our table and said hello to [our mutual friend] Savannah and introduced himself to me. I thought he was so handsome, confident, kind, and ambitious. Of course, I proceeded to then question Savannah all about this guy!
We met on multiple occasions after through our friends. Then in October at a Virginia Tech tailgate, before a rainy football game against NC State, he grabbed my hand and said he was going to take me on a date, and the rest was history! I called my mom and said, “I think I met the man I’m going to marry.”
Don’t forget to have your DC engagement photographer take photos of your ring. So beautiful!
Who proposed and how?
Lance proposed to me on May 23, 2020. We were in Washington, D.C. at the Lincoln Memorial with my family enjoying Memorial Day weekend. We were standing at the top of the stairs of the Lincoln Memorial looking out over the reflection pool when he got on one knee.
I was shocked and so overwhelmed with happiness! Afterward, my family, Lance, and I had a picnic catered by the Old Ebbitt Grill on the National Mall and a bottle of champagne to celebrate! It was the best day!
Why did you choose a Washington DC photo session?
Lance chose DC because he wanted my parents and sister to attendthe engagement. He originally planned to ask me on my graduation day when I received my Master’s (in Public Health from George Washington), but COVID hit. Therefore no graduation!
The Washington Monument’s reflecting pool makes for such stunning engagement photos.
What is your advice for other brides-to-be?
Don’t be afraid to be unique. Make the day personal and custom to you and your values. Don’t get too wrapped up in the trends and comparisons. It makes planning more fun and less stressful too!
Has COVID affected your wedding?
Besides Lance’s original engagement plans on my graduation day, thankfully no! We decided to have a 2022 wedding in hopes there will be a COVID vaccine by then and allow those who were impacted by this year some time to recover and let life get back to normal.
We’re getting married on May 14, 2022, at the Basilica of St. Lawrence in Asheville, NC. Followed by the reception at the Grove Park Inn overlooking the Great Smoky Mountains, where I grew up!
Are you making any adjustments to your wedding due to COVID?
Ideally, we would have liked to plan to marry sooner. We are hoping by having a 2022 wedding, we won’t have to make any changes and everybody will be able to attend in good health and spirits!
